•••    maybe one of these days I will run into ryan on one of my far-too-infrequent excursions off campus (tomorrow! tomorrow!). it's funny, because when random people ask where I live, I say philadelphia (because really, who knows where swarthmore is?) - but I hardly ever see the city. I live on an arboretum next to the woods. eesh.

•••    I couldn't decide whether to blog this. most of you have no idea who trilly is. but after reading it over and over, I thought it could at least be a reminder that someone always cares, and no matter who you are, someone will miss you when you're gone. everyone needs to be reminded of that from time to time.

•••    trying to get to google today, I accidentally hit r instead of e, and discovered yet another typo porn site (googlr.com for those of you who weren't paying attention, and no I'm not linking to it.) then when I tried to fix it before it finished loading, the cursor did that stupid jump-to-the-end-of-the-url thing and I ended up with www.googlr.come . . . sigh. I think I need to go back to bed.

•••    remember those braitenberg vehicles I was talking about? I decided I would write my webpaper on them (due in ten hours, ha), so I've been searching for sites. I found a very impressive simulator - you can mess with the settings and everything! this will probably be a lot less exciting for people who haven't read the book than it is for me, but it's cool anyway. check it out (and maybe it will convince you that you should read the book, hmm? :)

•••    I had running in my schedule today from 8-9 pm. (I am horrifically bad at following schedules, but I make them anyway, because otherwise I would have no idea how far behind I was.) as I was leaving, though, I decided I really didn't want to talk to anyone or even see anyone - so instead of running on the street or the sidewalk, I went trail running. in the woods, in the city-lit-grey-dark. and, as it turned out, in the rain. yes, I fell, but only twice. ;) being antisocial may be hazardous to your health.

•••    my current source of anxiety, confusion, and general discomfort: the fall housing lottery, which I think is unnecessarily complicated. eesh. we got our lottery numbers in the mail today; mine is so low (30 from the bottom) that it's meaningless. I'll be picking off my roommate's number.

the more I think about it, the more things seem to be moving way too quickly right now. four weeks until finals. erk.

•••    starting today, the dining hall (yes there is only one) is going to be open all day long, from 7:30 am until 7:15 pm. while I have no doubt that this will end up being useful, I don't really believe that they're doing it just to improve service and make us happy. I think we just weren't eating enough of their sludge and they needed to come up with a strategy for getting rid of it. (at least now the snack bar won't be so crowded!)

•••    I just had a really weird IM conversation with my little brother. (he's eight.) somehow, there is something very surreal about talking to my family members online. email is fine, but anything live and I feel like I'm in an alternate universe. that doesn't happen with anyone else I talk to, even people I know very well in real life. I don't know why it would be different with my family - maybe it's because they're all such non-webgeeks. (they're really nice non-webgeeks, though. my father even asked if it was okay with me if he read my webpage! in the spirit of openness and sharing on the web, I said yes. I don't think they read it all that much, though; to the best of my knowledge they haven't discovered the blog yet.)

•••    superheterodyne does look creepier. it took me a while to figure out that the green thing in the background is someone's face. for some reason it looked like a knee at first.
