saturday, april 15

•••    how is it that after an entire year of keeping track of all my clothes, I lose two socks in one day? (yes, from different pairs - two of my favorite pairs, even.) I turn to the quantum theory of laundry for answers . . .
7:58 PM +

•••    I have spent the last three hours doing laundry. and I thought websurfing was a timesuck. :P
6:40 PM +

•••    good things about spec weekend: better-than-usual food in the dining hall, random cool stuff going on around campus, and inflatable fun! diving headfirst and getting bungee-yanked backwards through four inches of rain water was definitely the highlight of my week.
3:59 PM +

•••    my rugby team is very very very muddy . . . and still undefeated. :)

friday, april 14

•••    I have yet to find anything useful for deepleap to do, though it has given me some very amusing error messages. maybe I will be inspired later.
10:21 PM +

•••    perplexing website of the day: jolly rancherland. I just don't understand . . . why would a website dedicated to little hard candies have a recipe for leather aprons? meanwhile, in the saloon you can watch scantily clad jolly ranchers dance upstairs - or you can gamble with them. (anyone else disturbed?)
8:09 PM +

•••    today I built a seven foot tower out of drinking straws in under twenty minutes. structural integrity was not one of its strong points. ;) playing with fourth graders is fun.
3:40 PM +

•••    happy birthday, adam! (don't feel old. you're still young enough that people will grumble at you and say "those college kids think they have all the answers . . . ")
9:17 AM +

•••    the negative guy, better known as sjc, has something new up. it's pretty interesting, actually.
9:09 AM +

•••    when I went outside this morning, I was greeted by two bunnies sitting next to the stairs. a little cuteness goes a long way at 7:30 am. :)

thursday, april 13

•••    I have been meaning to organize the blog links for a while, because whenever I add a new one I don't know where to put it. a lot of people have blogs listed in alphabetical order, so I decided to do mine in reverse alphabetical order. my last name and my blog's name both start with w, so I know what it's like to always be at the bottom of lists - now the w's are at the top. :)
9:59 PM +

•••    okay, grrr. derek (huh. somehow that feels really weird . . . I know everyone calls him derek, but it seems presumptuous coming from me and I'm not sure why. maybe because it's not anywhere on his page - only powazek is) linked to an apparently negative guy with an apparently negative rant, but it's not there anymore! I'm not a nosy person at all, but I'm really curious now after having read a description of it at metacubed. if he actually did describe himself as someone who sounds like a nimrod, you wouldn't think he'd have a major problem letting people read the thing!
8:17 PM +

•••    so next year my roommate and I are living in the biggest hall on the dorm that is the farthest from campus. the housing list has been posted for less than 24 hours, and I have already had a bunch of random people come up to me to say welcome to the dorm and to tell me what a cool place it is to live and how much fun it is going to be. . . most of whom I would have guessed were not even aware of my existence, let alone my name.
people are surprising sometimes.
3:09 PM +

•••    mars is turning out to be a lot more exotic than most people expected. I think the polar layers look kind of like ribbon candy. :)
(by the way, if you haven't explored nasa's planetary photojournal, you really should. it's a well designed site with some pretty flexible and powerful search capabilities.)

wednesday, april 12

•••    thoughts on next year's housing situation.
10:00 PM +

•••    it's housing lottery time. think good thoughts. :P
7:03 PM +

•••    I want a nano-explorer! actually, I want to be a nano-explorer. it would be like fantastic voyage, only without the pointless romantic subplot.
4:43 PM +

•••    green goop update: so far I mostly look like I fell in a pool of that nickelodeon gunk, but it's smoothing out and getting better. I wonder if it will come out of my eyebrows. it's times like this when I wish I had a webcam . . . and I bet you're glad I don't. :)
2:06 PM +

•••    after a rather stressful physics exam this morning, I decided I needed a new toy. so now I have this fun gooey . . . stuff. it's transparent and green and sparkly. it bounces and stretches and sticks to things. right now it's sitting on the back of my hand, slowly oozing in between my fingers . . . ooh. :) I bet if I covered my whole face with it I would look like an alien.

tuesday, april 11

•••    the acts of the apostles are exciting!
when they heard these things
they were cut to the heart
and they gnashed on him with their teeth!

(I am listening to more stravinsky.)
11:02 PM +

•••    I'm not really sure what to call this blog, so I'll just leave it as it is. anyway I just found it and I like it a lot. ath0 : here & elsewhere
3:50 PM +

•••    I wonder how many people have blogged firda by now . . .? and yes, it is lame, but it's lame in a cute way.
3:39 PM +

•••    math is not funny.
10:53 AM +

•••    I had to click through 27 pages to get to it, but wow this is beautiful. thanks brig. :)
1:41 AM +

monday, april 10

•••    I walked through the ampitheater to get to the music library a few hours ago. it looked very ghostly in the moonlit dark, with all the tall limbless tree trunks glowing and the leaves fluttering high overhead . . . now I am listening to stravinsky's symphony of psalms and feeling like physics and linear algebra are just not transcendant enough. (the side of me that made me come to a liberal arts schools is kicking around tonight.)
11:43 PM +

•••    now you can go stargazing even if it's cloudy. or you can see what the sky looks like over zimbabwe even when you're stuck in philadelphia. excited?
9:30 PM +

•••    now my paper is finished. ha. :)
11:26 AM +

•••    it's hard to believe, but I actually wrote an xfiles review. it's been far too long since I reviewed an episode . . . I really like writing them. it ended up being much more verbose and introspective (and time consuming) than I was expecting. I feel good about it, though. who cares if my paper isn't finished. sometimes you just have to do these things.

sunday, april 9

•••    of all the amazing, inspiring, and entertaining 5k entries, the fibonacci one is my favorite. funny how something so simple can be so mesmerising. (not to mention timesucking. I have been making patterns for the last half hour.)
7:04 PM +

•••    I can't stay awake today. this is not conducive to productivity. pleh.
5:44 PM +

•••    I've been thinking about my fray post. for one thing, it's amusing because I actually gave myself a much worse electric shock just last month trying to unplug a stereoscope. (with wet hands.) so apparently I haven't gotten much brighter over the last twelve years. . . :) also, it's funny that I entered my real name instead of my internet pseudonym (kaz, of course). I thought about it for a while before I pushed the post button. I think most people on the web still know me as kaz, but I don't know if they're the people who read the fray anyway. it is probably much less significant than it feels. ;)
12:36 PM +

•••    I was a stupid kid sometimes, too.
2:30 AM +

•••    getting away from school is a good thing. yes it is.
