saturday, april 22••• I'm a vegan, but I still like to decorate easter eggs. is that wrong?11:44 PM + ••• am I slow? I just heard of the claymation movie chicken run for the first time tonight (done by the same people who make wallace and gromit, who I love because they kept me entertained when I was in the hospital post-surgery). claymation! on the big screen! with chickens! now there are two movies I want to see this summer. that doesn't happen very often. ;) 10:16 PM + ••• for some reason I find chemicool very amusing . . . I think it has a lot to do with the domain name itself, though the top five elements list also made me grin. I mean really, neodymium? 9:48 PM + ••• you can share your moments with zannah and the rest of the internet at the brand-new oubliette. yay. sharing is good. :) (it's kind of like random access memory, but you can be anonymous if you like and there's no registration required.) 7:59 PM + ••• WE BEAT PRINCETON!!! this is turning into a swat rugby blog but I don't care . . . we beat princeton. we are undefeated. pretty good for a little liberal arts school, don't you think? I'm going to go party with my drunk team now. :) 2:10 PM + ••• saturday's a rugby day! we are playing princeton. they are ranked number two in the nation. I think it will be fun. 8:52 AM + ••• the google bunny is celebrating easter. eggs everywhere! 8:44 AM + ••• my brain is resisting my attempts to go to bed early. . . but now I'm off to sleep, and dreams of rugby heaven. (t - 10 hours.) 12:58 AM + friday, april 21••• there's a new blog in the link list today. can you find it? :)10:07 PM + ••• make that cold wet muddy thunderstorm rugby practice! oh, it was fun. (too bad I couldn't feel my hands.) 7:16 PM + ••• you can tell you haven't left enough time for an assignment when your answers get progressively shorter. exponentially. (question one: half a page. question ten: one word. ha!) now it's time for cold wet muddy rugby practice! (t-19 hours until princeton . . .) thursday, april 20••• will hines is compensating for a lack of new ideas with really big fonts.8:37 PM + ••• have you seen the violence against women act? how about the petition? 8:10 PM + ••• terra is live and operating beautifully, just in time for earth day. the ceres images are my favorites. mmm, dust. 3:02 PM + ••• if p, then q: if I have to try and decipher any more ridiculous wason selection task symbols, my brain will liquify. cognitive science does have practical applications. 11:13 AM + ••• okay, I am an idiot. I was reading my email in telnet - not pine or anything, just unix - and one of the messages had a jpg attachment, which of course I couldn't see, and now that it's been read the email has been deleted from the server and I can't figure out how to get it back. I can't figure out if it's even possible. (yes, I have learned my lesson. grrr.) 10:22 AM + ••• change your perspective. just for a minute. (we are all so tiny.) 7:46 AM + ••• I woke up today when light from the rising sun hit my face. there is no better way to start a morning. 7:43 AM + wednesday, april 19••• if I had this domain name, I would put it to much better use. hmmph. :Pnow I'm off to sieze the night with my math homework. carpe noctem indeed. 10:06 PM + ••• the sky is blue again! :) 5:16 PM + ••• these are incredible. I'm mesmerised. wow. (metafilter can take you to wonderful places. I'm going to go stare at the turtle for a while.) 3:40 PM + ••• I love the first sentence of this article: "when low-mass stars called red supergiants die, they fade away on a wimpy wind" . . . or maybe they don't. :) (time to get my hands on a copy of this week's science.) 3:03 PM + ••• why physics is cool (one of many reasons): today in class we were doing a problem and arguing about how it should be set up. we had diagrams and equations everywhere and there was lots of disagreement about what would happen in a given situation - namely, rolling a yo-yo along a horizontal surface by pulling on the string from underneath the axle. one of the people in the class declared that he could settle the argument. he walked to the front of the room, pulled a yo-yo out of his pocket, and proceeded to test all of our possible setups. (the string goes underneath but the yo-yo moves in the direction opposite to the torque from the force caused by tension.) I never would have guessed that you need a whole blackboard to describe the motion of a yo-yo being yanked across a table, but you do. (yo-yos are fun to play with outside of physics class too.) tuesday, april 18••• hey mom - I'm a wa (in training)! :)10:02 PM + ••• on repeat in my cd player (much to my roommate's consternation, I think): ionisation, which of course is by the ridiculously-far-ahead-of-his-time varese. haha. :) (a side note on that list - too much schoenberg, not nearly enough stravinsky. just because it's not all ear-splitting doesn't mean it's not all revolutionary!) 9:27 PM + ••• I love rugby. I love wet rugby. I love muddy rugby. but cold wet muddy rugby? not so much. 5:55 PM + ••• galactic collisions in space! annihilation! armageddon! ahhhhhh!!! :D 3:02 PM + ••• it occurred to me this morning that it's been two years since I've taken a math class and not been worried I was going to fail it. I haven't failed anything yet, but I think I'm getting closer. if I would just learn to do my homework this would not be an issue. :P 10:40 AM + ••• fiona! 12:42 AM + ••• terraserver's area 51 images are already drawing more traffic than the server can handle. I have my own theories about that strange symbol on the desert floor. :) 12:29 AM + monday, april 17•••8:28 PM + ••• I miss living next to the boston marathon. it sounds like it was pretty exciting this year, too. 5:19 PM + ••• how much do you really know about your implicit attidutes? take the tests and find out. (they tell you to do the presidents first, but I think you should start with the race test before you start getting all tricky and try to out-think the system.) and yes, I'll tell you my results - if you tell me yours! 5:10 PM + ••• now derek's name is front and center. yay. :) 3:58 PM + ••• just in time for easter: mysterious jellybean physics. (I can't say I ever though of jellybeans as mysterious before! however I also didn't know it takes a week to make them. a week! think about that the next time you gobble a handful.) 3:27 PM + ••• rain, rain, rain, physics, rain, rain, physics, physics, rain, rain, rain. blah. 1:04 PM + sunday, april 16••• I'm back on campus, though I haven't quite made it back to my room yet. yay public computers (that are faster than mine!). there was purple lightning in the new jersey sky over my train home from trenton . . . sadly nothing especially exciting came of it.9:29 PM + ••• today I am off to princeton to see another play starring another star trek actor - avery brooks in chekhov's the cherry orchard. I'm so cultured. heh. ;) 10:17 AM + ••• arthur doesn't like me tonight. no one watching me attempt to walk down the hall would ever guess I'm an athlete, let alone a rugger. :P 1:06 AM + |
